On the fourth of July, 2019, Google rolled out its Doodle Baseball game, hitting a home run to celebrate Independence Day in the good old U.S. of A. What a lot of players might not see is that the game was crafted not just as a good time, but also as a nod to the good old days of classic American baseball traditions. From the roaring crowds to the warm, fuzzy feeling of the stadium, every little thing was designed to bring back the good old days of summer baseball.

One of the most eye-opening revelations is that each character in the game embodies a timeless ballpark treat. You find yourself in a pickle, playing as peanuts, while the other team is a real mixed bag of hotdogs, nachos, and even soda cups. It's a real food fight out there! The design team went with food characters, aiming for something that would tickle the fancy, be as light as a feather, and jump off the page — and lo and behold, it turned into one of the most unforgettable pieces of the Doodle.
