Chief Executive of xo Australia's casino group Crown Resorts has quit his job amid a scandal over money laundering allegations within casinos.Ken Barton's departure followed a number of other corporate directors.Last week it was found that Crown was unfit to hold a gaming license in New South Wales, meaning it could not operate a newly-built casino in Sydney. The report also raises doubts about Crown's casinos in other cities.Crown, mostly owned by Australian billionaire James Packer, is accused of wrongdoing at casinos in Melbourne and Perth.

Its overseas operations have come under scrutiny, especially after allegations that travel payments for Chinese gamblers are linked to organized crime. In her report last week, Investigative Commissioner Patricia Bergin found that Crown "facilitates money laundering, exposes officers at risk of detention in foreign jurisdictions and conducts commercial relations with individuals" in connection with the law. Criminal group She recommended a corporate oversight overhaul, starting with the majority of board cuts.

'Lack of care'

Mr Barton has been with the company for more than a decade, having served as chief financial officer before becoming chief executive in 2020.In addition to the general management of the company, he is responsible for two accounts related to money laundering claims.Commissioner Bergin found he had demonstrated a "lack of supervision" when dealing with those allegations and advised NSW regulators that he was not fit for the role. He's not exactly what is required for a casino license holder," she wrote in her report.

Crown announced Barton's departure on Monday in a statement to the Australian stock market.Chief Executive Officer Helen Coonan said the company is taking "important steps to improve our governance, compliance and culture".The investigation's gunshot discovery, however, raises questions about the company's future. It also focuses on gaming regulators in Victoria and Western Australia (WA) due to its failure to accept misconduct. Of Crown On Monday, local media reported that WA's chief casino regulator had resigned after revealing he was friends with a senior member of the Crown legal team.
